Ever have misgivings about a barber with a straight
razor? Apparently so did the author of a series of lurid murder mysteries
in the 1840s. He created the character of a barber who send his wealthy
customers through a trap door in his shop, flinging them to the basement to
their deaths. If the tumble does not break their necks, he then finishes
them off with his razor. He takes the booty, then sends the corpses
to Mrs. Lovetts pie shop, an ajoining eatery, where the bodies are
minced into tiny pieces and baked into meat pies, which Mrs. Lovett then sells
to unsuspecting customers. The tale was altered somewhat, and made
into a Broadway muscial by Steven Soundheim and then into a film starring
Johnny Depp. In these versions, the Barber, named Barker, is after revenge
after being sent to a prison colony in Australia after being falsely accused
by a corrupt judge. He reappears in England, changes his name to Todd and
begins the grisley procedure of getting even. #H277 Trousers, Vest, Shirt with inset & belt.
