Originally a Japanese comic (known there as Mach Go Go Go), Speed was introduced to American TV audiences in 1968. Speed, his friend Sparky and girlfriend Trixie have all sorts of adventures protecting Racer Motors (Mifune Motors in the Japanese version) from villians who would steal the ideas behind the amazing Mach 5 racer. As an added benefit, Speed gets to drive the Mach 5 really fast.
