Five years
after the end of the US Civil War, new beginnings were all around. The
Brooklyn Bridge in New York City was begun, women received
the right to vote in Utah territory, and the first
pneumatic subway was opened in New York. The bustle was a popular invention for women's clothing. Skirts became closer fitting. #H286 (circa 1870) Evening ensemble is comprised of bodice and skirt. Bodice is close fitting with scooped front neckline and a v shape in back. Closure is hook and eye over a hidden zipper. Skirt has pleated back, hemline ruffles and pleated apron, bustle and train.
