Allspice
Pimenta dioica or Eugenia pimenta (Pimento, Jamaica Pepper) An evergreen tree reaching to 30ft. belonging to the myrtle family. The berries of the tree are gathered while still green, then dried , ground and used as a cooking spice. Called 'allspice' because its flavor resembles a combination of cloves, juniper berries, cinnamon and pepper. Oil from the seeds is used to treat stomach complaints and is a basic ingredient of Aquae Pimentae, an age-old purgative.
